Presentation Title:  “Shall We Dance?” Disarming Defensiveness about Race in the Classroom and Beyond

Date and Time: Wednesday, March 21, 2018; 7-8 pm, EST

Cost: free and open to the public

Description: College is a pivotal environment for raising awareness of systemic racial injustice and the need for interracial reconciliation. For many students, however, being confronted with a racialist legacy tends to arouse discomfort and defensiveness. On a national level, we see a backlash against efforts to acknowledge or redress injustices experienced by minorities. This webinar unpacks these phenomena and explores ways of transforming defensiveness into openness and empathy among races, especially in the classroom.
