Faculty Search: Program Head Communication

Great Northern University is a fully accredited Christian liberal arts university in Spokane, Washington. GNU was founded in 2018 by a group of faculty who were driven by their faith in Jesus and the need for biblically-grounded education in the Inland Northwest. That biblical grounding includes a required Bible minor (six courses) for all B.A. students. We are currently searching for a new faculty member to serve as program head for the Communication Program.

Position: Program Head and tenure-track faculty member, Communication.

This faculty member will teach core courses in the Communication curriculum, including Communication Theory; Media, Culture, and Society; Rhetorical Analysis, and others, along with various elective courses in the Communication curriculum (depending on research and student interests).

As Program Head, this faculty member will advise students in the B.A. in Communication as well as eventually lead (following the first year of the appointment) in ongoing curricular development.

In the first year of the appointment, responsibilities will be limited to the roles outlined above. In subsequent years, however, the expectation is that the faculty member will participate in faculty committees as guided by, and in discussion with, the Academic Dean.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Agreement with the University’s Code of Belief and Conduct
  • Demonstration of spiritual maturity and a commitment to the local church
  • Possession of a Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in Communication
  • Commitment to the student community as a mentor and advisor

Responsibilities:

  • Establish vision for the Communication program at GNU
  • Recruit and develop program faculty
  • Attend regularly scheduled faculty and program head meetings
  • Aid in program promotion with prospective students and other interested parties
  • Coordinate with program faculty and the Registrar to schedule course offerings and teaching assignments
  • Develop curriculum, including program outcomes, course outcomes, and an effective program assessment plan
  • Teach 18–24 credits per academic year

Remuneration:

This position is full-time and includes salary and benefits commensurate with the current GNU faculty salary scale as published on the date of hiring.

Position closes: January 1, 2026.
