Dr. Mark Ward Sr. – Digital Religion and Media Economics: Concentration and Convergence in the Electronic Church
The Network for New Media, Religion and Digital Culture Studies is excited to announce the Annual Digital Religion Research Award lecture will take place online on November 4th, 2020. This event will feature Dr. Mark Ward Sr., associate professor of communication at the University of Houston-Victoria, who will give a webinar on his award-winning article entitled Digital Religion and Media Economics: Concentration and Convergence in the Electronic Church. This research shows historical continuity in the tendency of old and new religious media industries toward oligopoly, as well as explores the convergence between traditional and digital religious media content resulting from the massification of digital religion. This award seeks to recognize outstanding research in the area of Digital Religion Studies, which explores a variety of aspects on religion and technology.
The event will include a virtual lecture, Q&A interaction with the audience, an award presentation and discussion of resources offered by the Network. The call for submissions for the 2021 Digital Religion Research Award will also be released at this event, so you can learn how to submit your own research for next year’s award.
