I hope to submit a paper session proposal to the Religious Communication Association for the National Communication Association convention to be held November 10-13 in Philadelphia or the RCA conference to be held November 9, also in Philadelphia. The session’s theme is rhetoric, religion, and social justice. Possible topics include but are not limited to social justice rhetoric in religious communities and religious rhetors engaged in social justice activism beyond religious organizations.

Dr. Andre E. Johnson has agreed to serve as our respondent. Dr. Johnson teaches communication at the University of Memphis and has written widely in relation to this session’s theme.

To be considered as a potential presenter in this session, submit your proposed paper title and an abstract (200 to 300 words) to stgaines@memphis.edu no later than March 19. Include your name, institution, title, email address, and phone number. Also identify your paper’s significance, artifact(s), theoretical foundation(s), and specific research method(s). Be sure to engage with recently published scholarship. I would like the session to represent diverse experiences and interests. Artifacts may represent various religious traditions.

By submitting to this paper session, you agree to attend the NCA convention or the RCA conference, whichever contains the session, if your paper is part of the accepted session proposal.

If this session is accepted for the NCA convention or the RCA conference, the session’s presenters will turn in their completed papers to stgaines@memphis.edu no later than October 19.
