Job Description: The School of the Arts, Media + Culture (SAMC) at Trinity Western University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the Art + Design Department at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning August 16, 2016.
The ideal candidate will have an MFA or MAA degree in design (or equivalent related field), bring an active record of professional practice, and demonstrate engagement with critical thinking and contemporary trends in visual communication and design thinking, including but not limited to social and human-centered design, web and interactive design, as well as graphic design. The candidate will champion the existing design stream in SAMC’s departments of Art + Design, and Media + Communication, and be able to lead and grow a curriculum which is responsive to creative culture and industry.
SAMC is committed to positive mentoring within a small and vital community of learning characterized by both disciplinary focus and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will be a committed Christian with a strong record of teaching, scholarship and service, a commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education, and an educational philosophy of mentorship, seeking to explore with students the intersections between faith and design practices. Although the position currently involves teaching design courses, other expertise in any of the following will be considered an asset: art history, art theory, administrative leadership.
