Position Description

Pepperdine University’s Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences invites applications for a full time, tenure-track faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Screen Arts in the Communication Division to begin August 2020. The Division’s facilities include a news and production studio, editing suites, a radio station, and a prominent student newspaper. Candidates should have knowledge and experience to teach journalism and production courses with an emphasis on digital and visual storytelling techniques.

Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Journalism, Media, Communication, or a related discipline. Candidates should be well-versed in studio, field, and/or multi-camera productions and adept at videography and nonlinear editing, such as Adobe Premiere. The ideal candidate will also possess professional experience working as a journalist in a broadcast setting or producing episodic media content. Previous university-level teaching experience is also desired. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in digital and visual and storytelling as they relate to short- and long-form journalism and innovative techniques in news and media production. Specific courses to be taught are not limited to, but include video field production and multi-camera studio production.

The successful candidate must have a commitment to excellent teaching at the undergraduate level, a clear research agenda, and be actively involved in a Christian faith community. In addition to excellent teaching, faculty responsibilities include active involvement in division, college, and university service and academic advisement. Additional duties may include newsroom and field and studio work related to courses and co-curricular productions.
